How it works

Words per minute uses the standard convention that five characters make one word. Words per minute = (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes, where minutes is the time from your first key press to the end of the test. Every character typed counts, including mistakes.

Accuracy = correct characters ÷ characters typed × 100. A character is correct when it matches the passage at the same position. Characters typed past the end of the passage count as errors. Results are rounded to one decimal place.

The test ends when you have typed the whole passage, or when you press Finish. The passage is chosen at random from a fixed list.
