How it works

Hourly, daily, weekly and annual. Any one pay figure gives the others. Daily pay is the hourly rate times the hours per day. Weekly pay is the daily pay times the working days per week. Annual pay is the weekly pay times 365.2425 / 7 weeks a year (52.1775 weeks), less the daily pay for each unpaid day. If you enter an annual salary, the weekly pay is worked back from it, allowing for unpaid days.

Weeks per year. The average Gregorian calendar year is 365.2425 days, because the calendar repeats every 400 years, which hold 146,097 days. Dividing by 7 gives 52.1775 weeks a year.

Average monthly and average per day. The average monthly figure is the annual pay divided by 12. The average per calendar day is the annual pay divided by 365.2425. These are averages, so a real month can pay more or less.

Working days in a month. The chosen month is counted day by day from the calendar. Days on your schedule count: five days a week is Monday to Friday, six is Monday to Saturday, and seven is every day. A month with more or fewer working days pays more or less, so the month figure is worked out from the real calendar. Unpaid days are set per year, so they do not change the month figure.

Rounding. Figures are exact until the last step. Money is then rounded to the cent, half up: 2.345 becomes 2.35 and 2.344 becomes 2.34.
