Cat Life Stage Calculator
Enter a cat's age in years to see its life stage under the AAHA/AAFP 2021 Feline Life Stage Guidelines, with the guideline's wording. Decimal ages are allowed.
End-of-life depends on health, not age, and can occur at any life stage.
How it works
This calculator follows the AAHA/AAFP 2021 Feline Life Stage Guidelines, Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery 23(3), 211–233, DOI 10.1177/1098612X21993657.
Stage bands. Kitten: birth up to 1 year. Young adult: 1 through 6 years. Mature adult: 7 to 10 years. Senior: over 10 years.
Decimal ages are placed in the stage they start in. An age from 0 up to, but not including, 1 is a kitten. An age from 1 up to, but not including, 7 is a young adult. An age from 7 up to and including 10 is a mature adult. An age over 10 is a senior. So 6.9 is a young adult, 7 is a mature adult, and 10.1 is a senior. The age is used exactly as entered.
No human age. The guideline does not give a cat-to-human age conversion, so this calculator does not show one.
End-of-life depends on health, not age. A stage cannot tell you whether a cat is near the end of its life.
Ages must be zero or more. Empty, text and negative entries are refused with a message. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere or stored.
